Take Control of Your Construction Business Processes

Sample from the Paper
Step 1: Define the Process You Want to Map
Pick one process to start with. Choose something that is repeated often, involves multiple people, or tends to cause frustration. For example: Preparing an estimate, managing change orders, submitting invoices, or onboarding subcontractors.
Start small. Map one process at a time. Once you’ve got the hang of it, you can tackle others.
Step 2: Identify Inputs, Outputs, and People Involved
Frame the process before you start, to provide focus and prevent scope creep.
- Inputs: What information do you feed into the process (info, documents, approvals)?
- Outputs: What’s the final result or “done” point?
- People: Who touches this process (PMs, estimators, subs, clients, admins)?
