Why Total Quality Construction Switched To JobTread

After years of using expensive, complicated software, Scott Hinz discovered a better way to run his business.

The Challenge

Ohio-based Total Quality Construction has a nine-person team who complete about 35 projects each year. For more than a decade, the company used UDA to manage its jobs, but over time, founder Scott Hinz grew frustrated with the software’s constraints.

“We were limited on how many jobs we could run,” he recalls. “Every time we hit our maximum number, they would raise the price even more. It was getting expensive, especially as construction costs were rising.”

UDA had been difficult to learn, and years of customer data were stored on the platform. Making a switch felt risky, but staying with the old system was holding the business back.

Making the Switch

After hearing positive feedback from other contractors, Scott decided to take a closer look at JobTread. The pricing immediately stood out, as did the promise of a seamless onboarding process.

“The cost was very appealing, but what really impressed me was how simple they made the transfer,” he says. “Paris, our customer success manager, handled the migration, and everything came over smoothly.”

Once the team began using JobTread, Scott quickly noticed the difference. “I’m a carpenter by trade, not a tech person,” he explains. “Learning UDA was hard. When I started using JobTread, it felt like a contractor had built it. The system just works just the way we need it to.”

Favorite JobTread Feature

Among the many JobTread tools he relies on, Scott’s personal favorite is the small, but mighty, web clipper.

“It’s fantastic,” he says. “You get current pricing on things where if you’re manually inputting them who knows if the pricing’s still good? I’m to the point where I don’t even need to have my own catalog anymore because JobTread has this global catalog and everything’s current.”

Best Advice

Although his team had been using JobTread since February 2025, Scott attended JobTread Bootcamp in September to gain a deeper understanding of the system. “We were using it well, but I wanted to see what I might be missing,” he says.“My goal is to know this program like the back of my hand because there are so many ways it can improve our business.”

Scott’s biggest piece of advice for anyone planning to attend Bootcamp is to be fully present. “I talked to someone who came but spent the whole time answering calls and texts from clients and vendors,” he says. “He told me he needs to come again.”

Instead, he advises to treat the two days like a short vacation. “Let your customers and team know you’ll be unavailable. You’re investing in yourself and your company so take full advantage of it.”
